چکیده
We give a mathematically rigorous analysis which confirms the surprising results in a recent paper [2] of Benilov, O’Brien and Sazonov about the spectrum of a highly singular non-self-adjoint operator that arises in a problem in fluid mechanics. Unconditionally Stable Schemes for Non-stationary Convection-Diffusion Equations
Convection-diffusion problem are the base for continuum mechanics. The main features of these problems are associated with an indefinite operator the problem. In this work we construct unconditionally stable scheme for non-stationary convection-diffusion equations, which are based on use of new variables. Also, we consider these equations in the form of convection-diffusion-reaction and constru...
متن کاملAnalysis of an Embedded Discontinuous Galerkin Method with Implicit-explicit Time-marching for Convection-diffusion Problems
In this paper, we analyze implicit-explicit (IMEX) Runge-Kutta (RK) time discretization methods for solving linear convection-diffusion equations. The diffusion operator is treated implicitly via the embedded discontinuous Galerkin (EDG) method and the convection operator explicitly via the upwinding discontinuous Galerkin method.
متن کاملTowards Automatic Multigrid Algorithms for SPD, Nonsymmetric and Indefinite Problems
A new multigrid algorithm is constructed for the solution of linear systems of equations which arise from the discretization of elliptic PDEs. It is defined in terms of the difference scheme on the fine grid only, and no rediscretization of the PDE is required. Numerical experiments show that this algorithm gives high convergence rates for several classes ofproblems: symmetric, nonsymmetdc and ...
متن کاملEquidistribution grids for two-parameter convection–diffusion boundary-value problems
In this article, we propose an adaptive grid based on mesh equidistribution principle for two-parameter convection-diffusion boundary value problems with continuous and discontinuous data. A numerical algorithm based on an upwind finite difference operator and an appropriate adaptive grid is constructed. Truncation errors are derived for both continuous and discontinuous problems. Parameter uni...
متن کاملAn indefinite convection-diffusion operator with real spectrum
has only real eigenvalues, which were shown to exist by Davies in [3]. In the same paper, he showed that the spectrum of −iH is equal to the set of its eigenvalues, so this implies that the spectrum is real. This was conjectured in [1], and Chugunova and Pelinovsky proved in [2] that all but finitely many eigenvalues are real, and gave numerical evidence that all eigenvalues are real. Our appro...
